From the beginning of the meetings of the committee, we chose as our patrons, first and foremost the Holy Innocents themselves. Those two-year-old boys, whom Herod slaughtered when the Magi, having obtained the time of the birth of the Newborn King, deceived him. However, they are not the only infant martyrs. There are more than 55 million who have died at the hands of their own parents in this new slaughter of the innocent, therefore we invoke all the Holy Innocents' of all time and all places to plead for us and may the spilling of all their blood come to a quick end.
Second, we chose Our Lady of Guadalupe as a primary patroness of the Foundation. In her apparition in 1531, she is seen as a pregnant Aztec woman. The image we have in the HIF offices is a gift from two Foundation contributors. This replica of the original from Mexico City, has actually touched St. Juan Diego's tilma at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The Blessed Mother and St. Joseph, belonging to the Holy Family are also represented in the H. I. Chapel, as they are in every Catholic Church and chapel. The mother with child statues if a gift to the Foundation and was hand carved in Italy.
In the rear of the chapel are the statues of the two other patrons of the Foundation: St. Gianna Molla and St. Gerard Majella.
